Introducing: Nicole Empson, our first Model Search Winner
We are so excited to introduce Nicole, Pāpāmoa mother of one and the first winner of our Blak Model Search!
We fell in love with Nicole’s stunning smile in her entry, and she was even more beautiful inside and out in person; she glows! We can’t wait to share more of the gorgeous pics we took on our shoot, but for now, here’s a little bit about our newest model!
Tell us about yourself!
I’m Nicole, I’m 27 and I’m married with a beautiful baby girl Chloe who just turned one! I’m an Agribusiness Analyst for Westpac Bank, but I originally studied Marine Biology.
How did you find out about the model search?
My mother-in-law tagged me in the post telling me to enter but I just laughed it off! The post popped up on my feed again after a couple of days and I just thought, oh, why not? I honestly didn’t think I’d get picked! When I got the message that I’d won, I actually threw my phone down - I thought you have to be kidding!
How did you feel wearing Blak for the shoot?
I’ve always been self-conscious of my arms - I’d never usually wear anything that showed them so I was nervous about that! The very first dress I put on was sleeveless and I looked in the mirror and actually felt really good! I went home afterwards and thought perhaps I need to get over that fear!
When do you feel most confident?
When I feel that I look good I definitely feel good on the inside - it’s amazing what a good hair day can do for you!
What has made you the woman you are today?
Becoming a mum has had a huge impact on me - I don’t think anything can prepare you for it. I have Type 1 Diabetes and have had since I was nine years old, so I had a high-risk pregnancy as well. It definitely took its toll on me. But I’m very much a believer of ‘it’s what you make of it that counts’ - I always look for the positives, but it's taken me a long time to get to that place.
What do your hope to be for your daughter as she grows up?
She’s my little best friend! I just want to be someone she can come to for anything and know I won’t judge her. I want to be her cheerleader, always!
